梧桐居
G O T O K Y O

A Japanese house on a quiet street.
One party a day, the whole house yours.

Nakano, Tokyo — a short walk from Nakano-shimbashi Station on the Marunouchi Line. Gotokyo is a house for an unhurried stay: closer to living here than passing through.

OPENING SPRING 2027
01

The Name

The name has independent roots in both classical Chinese literature and Japanese tradition. Written in roman letters it becomes GOTOKYO — which you may also read, simply, as "Go Tokyo."

After Zhuangzi

鳳凰非梧桐不棲

The phoenix alights only on the wutong tree, as the old saying goes. Prepare the right place, and the right guests will find their own way to it — for an inn, this is less a lucky phrase than a way of working.

The Paulownia in Japan

A crest beside the chrysanthemum

The paulownia crest — above all the go-shichi-no-kiri — has long ranked beside the chrysanthemum, appearing on Japanese government emblems. A paulownia chest was once the most treasured piece of a bridal trousseau. To Japanese eyes, the character itself carries quiet dignity.

On Quietness

Gotokyo is not a house for parties.

This is a quiet residential street. We run this house as members of the neighbourhood, protecting both our neighbours' daily life and our guests' rest. We ask our guests to keep evenings early and mornings soft — that quietness is the finest hospitality we have to offer.
